Description

WARNING: The trail from Tudor Rd north to Route 53 is closed from February to July. During this time, there are Northern Goshawks that are nesting in the area. They have very sharp claws and they will attack hikers. Do not ignore the posted warnings.

In order to hike this trail you must have a permit. A permit is a trail map. There are numerous signs posted stating that you must have a permit. This is because this trail is near a watershed area and it is important to stay on the trail. There are a number of trail maps available including the Connecticut Walk Book, one is available from the Mark Twain Library, or you can print one using the trail map link above.

The Saugatuck Trail conveniently has portable toilets at almost every parking spot. Each parking spot has room for 2-3 cars on average. The northern terminus can be difficult to find. Use 56 Deer Hill Rd as an approximate address. The very northern section does not have blue blazes until you have walked .2 miles south of the northern terminus.
